Teeny Tiny Gnome

(Erwin/Castle)

Lead Vocals: Micky Dolenz
Produced By: Tommy Boyce & Bobby Hart
Date: August 23, 1966

This session is probably responsible for Don Kirshner's decision to bring in Jeff Barry as a producer. While intended to provide comic relief on the album, "Teeny Tiny Gnome" was not deemed suitable by Don Kirshner. "Teeny Tiny Gnome" lingered in the can until 1987's Missing Links.

Lyrics:

Duh Dut Duh Dut Duh Dut Duh Dut
Duh Duh Duh
Duh Dut Duh Dut Duh Dut Duh Dut
Duh Duh Duh

Kicking stones down an old dirt road
Feeling diddy-jected and all alone
When I looked up ahead and thought my mind I'd blown
On a giant toad stool sat a teeny tiny gnome

Duh Dut Duh Dut Duh Dut Duh Dut
Duh Duh Duh
Duh Dut Duh Dut Duh Dut Duh Dut
Duh Duh Duh

He was all involved in a game of solitare
Said hello with a smile
Just like I wasn't there
I kicked the dirt somemore
He said "Please don't start a fight."
Found the church key in his pocket
He opened up his pipe

Duh Dut Duh Dut Duh Dut Duh Dut
Duh Duh Duh
Duh Dut Duh Dut Duh Dut Duh Dut
Duh Duh Duh

He blew himself some circles, wound his fingers in his beard
And from the pipe came magic music like I never heard

[instrumental]

Duh Dut Duh Dut Duh Dut Duh Dut
Duh Duh Duh
Duh Dut Duh Dut Duh Dut Duh Dut
Duh Duh Duh

As the notes came floatin' in
I picked up my ears
I walked into a drive-in
Hadn't felt so starved in years
A rabbit waiter took the order
And quickly disappeared
He said, "The party's over,
please come back in a thousand years."

Duh Dut Duh Dut Duh Dut Duh Dut
Duh Duh Duh
(repeat and fade)
