The Monkees

Album Review

Overall Rating (Out Of 10): 7

One of the stronger albums by the group, the Monkees debut LP features many of their classic tunes. Constructed by Don Kirshner, Tommy Boyce, and Bobby Hart, this album and it's successor feature very little musical input by the group, and therefor loses some points in my book. As with many of their albums, great songs recorded at the sessions for this album, such as "You Just May Be The One," "(I'm Not Your) Steppin' Stone," "Mary, Mary," and "Of You" were passed over for lesser efforts, such as "Let's Dance On" and "I'll Be True To You." Luckily, some of these leftovers would make their way onto the next LP.

Three Best Tracks Recorded At This Time:

  1. (I'm Not Your) Stepping Stone
  2. Last Train To Clarksville
  3. Of You
Three Worst Tracks Recorded At This Time:
  1. Let's Dance On
  2. I'll Be True To You
  3. (Theme From) The Monkees
